The founder of BHU, Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya instituted a course in Ceramic Technology as early as 1924 with the gallant objective for the advancement of glass & ceramic technology in India. In the year 1956, Department of Glass Technology was merged to form Department of Silicate Technology which further was renamed as Department of Ceramic Engineering making it one of the oldest departments in the then Institute of Technology. In 2012 Institute of Technology joined the elite group of IITs and thus, became the only IIT to offer B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD programmes in Ceramic Engineering & Technology. The department has since been producing pioneers in the field of ceramics with comprehensive scientific & technological background.The departments pear heads scientific research in the field of nanotechnology, electro-ceramics, bio-ceramics and various other contemporary & traditional facets of ceramics.
A joint venture of Student Chapter - Indian Ceramic Society and Department of Ceramic Engineering IIT BHU. Keramos promises a feat beyond comparisions. The Student Chapter - Indian Ceramic Society (IIT-BHU) is all set to bring you a plethora of events, and a spectacle worth waiting for. The previous editions saw a vast external participation competing with home teams in a wide range of technical events. After an examplary success last year, Keramos returns to set the bar even higher, uploading the 94 years old legacy of the Ceramic Department, in a bid to provide the perfect stage for participants to showcase their technical skills and win loads of cash prizes.
